Happy Monday and happy first day of May! I am so hoping that May brings warmer spring weather (consistently anyway) and all the things I love about Spring. I mean, who doesn't love warm days with cool nights, sunshine without NYC humidity, flowers and trees regaining the color they lost in the winter, happy hour drinks with co-workers & friends outside, and long walks and runs outside. In NYC I know that I can get into the habit of spending too much time indoors, even when the weather outside is perfect (I mean, workout in the gym, take the subway to the office, sit in the office all day, take the subway home, cook dinner inside - although if anyone in NYC has a grill/rooftop/patio and ever wants company I promise I bring good snacks & wine). So this year, I am making a few promises to myself to spend more time outside, especially to take some of my workouts outdoors.
This spring I plan to take some of my HIIT workouts outside (hello Central Park), start running again, and walking home for part of my commute instead of jumping on the subway right away. Below I'm sharing the gear I'm using to enjoy all the sunshine while I get my sweat on this spring:
Powerbeats3 Wireless Headphones: Not only are these wireless headphones great for long runs (it is so nice to actually have your phone put away in either a running belt or an arm strap and not have to worry about getting caught up in the wire), but wireless headphones make having music for any outdoor workout so easy. Put your headphones in, turn on your favorite playlist, and put your phone away so that (1) its not in your way for your workout and (2) its not baking in the sun while you get your sweat on. I have to say that wireless headphone have made outdoor workouts so much better.
Sweat with Bec Cake Maker Booty Band: This booty band is the perfect small and lightweight piece of equipment to take outside with you to take your outdoor HIIT workouts to the next level. Booty bands can be used in so many ways and this one actually has a workout included ON the band, which is so helpful and even better, it can be do outdoors.
Sweaty Betty Triple Jump Run Shorts: Not only are these Sweaty Betty run shorts so cute, but they are a slightly longer length than other run shorts I've tried which makes me so much more comfortable on so many levels. First, there is way less chaffing which is so important for those long sweaty runs. Also, I feel far more comfortable doing my HIIT workouts outdoors and in public knowing that I have complete and full coverage.
Lululemon The Reversible (Un) Mat: I personally am a fan of a lot of Lululemon's yoga mat, but I particularly like this one as it is super light weight which makes it that much easier to bring with me wherever I go. Although you don't necessarily need a yoga mat for an outdoor workout, I prefer having one whether I am working out on the grass or concrete, just to know that I have a smooth slightly cushioned surface to lay down on for abs or land on for HIIT (plus less sharp twigs and whatever else happens to be stuck in the grass at the park).
Flipbelt Running Belt: This is by far my favorite running belt I have owned. It stayed in place well and easily holds my iPhone 7 plus (yes, I love the big one) plus my keys, credit card, and ID. I've even started wearing the belt for some of my outdoor HIIT workouts just so that I can keep all my important items on me, rather than worrying about keeping an eye on them.
Nike Air Zoom Strong Sneaker: Now,I have owned a lot of running, training and cross-training shoes in my life and let me tell you, right now this is my absolute favorite sneaker. I am able to lift, run (up to three miles), jump, and do pretty much anything in this shoe without any knee, shin, or foot pain which to me makes it a complete winner. Since this shoe is so versatile I love it because I can wear one shoe and both run in the park and get some HIIT training in.
